A devastating vascular wilt disease spread by elm bark beetles that has killed millions of American elms since the 1930s. The fungus blocks water-conducting vessels, causing rapid wilting. It fundamentally changed the American urban landscape.

A lethal fungal disease that affects all oak species, with red oaks dying within weeks of infection. It spreads through root grafts between neighboring oaks and via sap-feeding beetles. White oaks are more resistant but not immune.

It causes rapid wilting and death of susceptible pine species, particularly non-native Scots pine and Austrian pine. The fungus infects current-year needles through stomata, causing them to turn purple-brown and drop prematurely. It has become increasingly recognized as a major cause of spruce needle loss, particularly on Colorado blue spruce. Diagnosis requires microscopic examination to distinguish from Rhizosphaera.

Heard frantic flapping noise against window glass, opened window and let in moth. It finally settled on trim above inside door where it's rested calmly for past 25 minutes. Guessing female based on wing shape, coloring and position, thinner antennae, and bulkier body/abdomen.

Not sure what this was, at first thought a potato bug, but looking at closer realized it was not. Not the kind of June bug I am used to seeing. Pretty sure this a Ten-lined Beetle, got this photo with my Android camera using the magnifying glass app. Better photo than with my Nikon P950. After reading about this beetle and the Long Haired Beetle, I touched the protonum on this beetle and it is smooth.
