About Sugar Kelp

Description: This observation shows a brown alga with a long, single, undivided blade that is ruffled or crinkled along the edges, giving it a distinctive wavy appearance. The color ranges from yellowish-brown to medium brown. The blade attaches to a smooth, flexible, cylindrical stipe, which in turn is anchored to the rock substrate by a claw-like, profusely branched holdfast. Notes: This sample (SM-0020) is from a private collection that will be donated to the Museum of the North Herbariu
